When I was little, I was always a dreamer. My imagination was my toy. Our family grew up with very little as my parents started their life over with nothing. As kids, everything was donated to us and our family slept in one bedroom. Yes the 5 of us sleeping in 1 bedroom. My first toy was at the age of 3 and it was a dishwashing toy that I loved so much. The clothes we were were all donated to us by a local church. We didn’t have a lot but we had our imaginations and we dreamed. As I grew older, I just knew my dreams could become a reality.
Today I sit here and remember the things I dreamt of as a teenager. I dreamt I would have a home, with a garage where I could park my car inside (how luxurious to get in a warm car in the morning). I dreamt of having a beautiful wedding to a man who loves me unconditionally, respects me and supports me. I dreamt of having kids and becoming a mom, a career in the corporate world, working in one of the high rise buildings where I could get dressed up. I dreamt of travelling and seeing the world. This is what I dreamed about as a teenager and today, I realize I have it. I dreamt of this and I have it. I am living my dream today. What I didn’t realize is, as we grow old, those dreams continue. They continue to push you forward, improving yourself, growing and aspiring for more.
Little did I know, that as an adult, I still continue to dream.
Today I dream my kids and family will live a healthy and happy life. I am dreaming of living by the water, in a house with a pool. I dream of being a successful entrepreneur whose created a fun, safe and inspiring work culture. I dream of working with a team of people who care and support one another. I dream of growing older and wiser with my husband in this beautiful life we’ve created. I dream of feeling free to travel and work whenever I want. I dream I will be able to give back to those who need it most. I will be fulfilled and filled with joy.
I guess what I’m saying is, it doesn't matter how old you are. Keep dreaming as it creates a path to where you want to go.
Take a pause and think, what in your life did you dream about that came true and is happening today? Life goes by so quick that sometimes we forget to pause and be in the moment and realize, "I dreamt of this."
